Can anyone help - Is there an outtake of "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" where the backing singers are too loud and it makes Jimi laugh and tell the producer to turn them down in the mix? I swear I've heard something like this but can't find it anywhere.

this would be the act of disrespect to the other band's members, apparently. I am not a fanboy to protect any point of view, but still, making music in a band is the collective type of work. it's famous for its frontman, but the other guys are not to blame if you simply don't pay attention to their contributions in the sound overall, including that composition stage when a song is still an idea, opened for discussions and to any kind of change.

Jimi Hendrix and The Jimi Hendrix Experience is a MAJOR difference. The first one is the person and mainly appears on posthumous release or on jam sessions (eg. Soft Machine, Traffic, Paul Butterfield, et al.) and the second is the band with Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding and later Billy Cox.
