It really sounds like Jonathan Richman had a lump in his throat when he was singing this (album version for the pedants out there). I think *that* is what I really love about it.

This is the best bummer jam. I don't think it's stalkerish, but obsessive. It's not that he's literally waiting for her outside the bar, I think he means that once she's through with that whole scene, he'll be there ('to get back into your life'). Needless to say, that's just pathetic wishful thinking.
