In 1981, Marc Campbell, front man of The Nails, sat before a beat up typewriter and in two hours, wrote 88 lines about 44 women. One incredibly influential DJ later and the rest, as they say, is history... Bruce Pollock speaks to Campbell about those 44 women who inspired The Nails' most infamous hit, which later landed the TV show, Dexter, with a lawsuit... Songfacts also bring you the video for "88 Lines About 44 Women" which was banned by YouTube. - http://www.songfacts.com/blog/playingmysong/marc_campbell_-_88_lines_about_44_women_/

he nails really didn't like this song, and it's shown clearly by their other material. For some reaosn, they're not in the lists of many gothic listeners from the 80s. It's a clear example of how one song, such as DaDa's Dizkneeland, defines an audience's expectations. I still like the song, despite my commentary above.

I still would love to see a documentary about the 44 women featured in this song...

About 60 lines and about 20 women better than old Krusty, however I think I was with a couple of these babes...

The Butthole Surfers' didn't do this song, but they did one that was clearly 'inspired' by this one called "Pepper".

Someone needs to make a documentary about this song and find out who the 44 women were and what became of them...and what they think of this.
