Nirvana’s version isn’t necessarily better, nor is the original. Each has its own moments of beauty and flaws. Kurt’s voice has more intensity than Kelly’s, but it lacks the bittersweetness of McKee's part. The original unfolds slowly, with a repetitive melancholy while Nirvana’s fast-paced version is direct and filled with urgency, cutting straight to the heart. I prefer Nirvana’s stripped-down approach; it’s more immediate and intense, offering a raw, emotional punch that resonates deeply, but you can't say that it's better than the OG. It's the same feeling I have with Just Like Heaven by The Cure and the cover by Dinosaur Jr.

I think both versions have their merits. This is a nice twee version, Nirvana's is a nice punk version.

I enjoy Nirvana but if you're a fan of "The Vaselines" or "The Meat Puppets", you'll notice a large number of their songs aren't exactly original.

frances + eugene duo makes this song what it is. i enjoy nirvana's, a lot.. but nothing's better than the original. the almost childlike melody (sounds like a nursery rhyme), coupled with the distortion .. AH ! to die for.
