"George Clinton and Bootsy Collins have worked with RHCP, so clearly have some legit funk cred even if I don't like them." -AnaalForsage, July 2017. But yeah, tags controlled by popular votes will always be unreliable, especially when the voting population is/was (on this particular post-apocalyptic husk of a website) mostly millennials like me who weren't even alive during the golden age of the genre.

    I made a bold claim based on very little knowledge. Probably funk is broader than large ensembles of proud black musicians in crazy outfits in the 70s. But that is all the funk I know, and I love it.

  I think James Brown in the early 70s and George Clinton are the funk kings. BTW. George Clinton produced the 2nd and funkiest RHCP album: Freaky Styley. (Have a listen to the title track!)

Why is RHCP the face of the funk tag???? [2] Even Jamiroquai as second is very dubious. Come on, the guy is talented but one of the major funk artists? Not quite. Should be Curtis Mayfield and Parliament instead.
