Darkthrone isnt crossover, its black metal using punky riffs and drums ;) punk metal is a good term for simple artists that use simple composition and instrumential work but play music more similiar to metal than punk rock

It's not a stupid tag at all. That's like saying get rid of the term crossover, fusion or hardcore 'cause ohnoes there's more than one genre that fits the term. Boohoo.

Plasmatics and Dayglo Abortions have metal elements that aren't as heavy as crossover thrash, and I don't have a better tag for that stuff. [track artist=Dayglo Abortions]After All These Beers[/track] is probably a good example.
