My friend it's not War Metal, it's Power Metal, War Metal is a subsection of Black Metal, sometimes mixed with Death Metal or/and Grindcore, and rarely sometimes with Goregrind or Noisecore/Grindnoise, like there's even some bands that define themselves as Warnoise.

War metal, also known as "bestial black metal", is an aggressive, cacophonous and chaotic black/death metal style, described by Rock Hard journalist Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann as "rabid" and "hammering". Important influences include the first wave of black metal, mainly in the Brazilian style played by Sarcófago, Mystifier and Vulcano, but , first wave/death metal band Possessed as well as old school grindcore and black/death metal bands like Repulsion, Blood, Sadistik Exekution, Order from Chaos. War metal bands include Blasphemy, Black Witchery, Conqueror, Abhorer and early Beherit. Many are also mistaken as to what war metal actually is as war metal is a term often mistakenly used simply to describe metal music of any sub-genre with lyrical themes based around war (Such as Sabaton, in which contrary to what Last.FM's tagging system believes Sabaton isn't actually war metal.)

The only reason why Sabaton is the top artist is due to their lyrics about war... they're not a black metal band. War metal is a black metal sub-genre.

People who say that war is repetitive are a bunch of idiots, frankly. Blasphemy, Revenge, and Archgoat all sound extremely different from each other, but definitely have the traits required to be war metal bands. And that's only 3 examples.

People should realize that "war metal" is not copyrighted, and never was widely used as a name of a genre. It was a very obscure term invented and used by a small group of black metal fans, and no one outside their circle ever heard about it. Considering how many metal bands sing about war, it was very unlikely to survive, and as we see, it didn't. As for Sabaton, I prefer to tag them with "battle metal", the term proposed by Turisas.
