“Bye Storm“ is the last song on Injury Reserve’s By the Time I Get to Phoenix.
This song reflects on not only what the group has been going through these past couple of years (with the loss of their friend and fellow group member Stepa J. Groggs), but the world. Rain and storms being a key theme on ‘Bye Storm’, possibly reflecting back to topics of climate change expressed and delivered earlier on the project. Though it seems as if the main goal of this track is to express and process how they feel about their loss. Reading the lyrics it very much feels like a therapy session, lyrics often get cut off by repeating mantras or expressions of confusion. It ends with a confession, Ritchie expresses how much he is hurting right now by saying “It’s really pourin'.”
