Biography

Kildevil Blues formed in Bowling Green, Ohio early 1988, w/John Johnson (guitar, vocals), John Tangeman (guitar), Ron Werdebaugh (guitar), and Jeff Fearnside (drums). After a summer of swill in Dayton, Oh (the year of the great heatwave), Johnson, Tangeman, and Werdebaugh moved to Boston, hooking up with drummer R. Flemens. The band recorded its self-titled debut in the New England Hall off of Copley Sq early 1989. CMJ called the record "some of the best lo-fi ever put to wax" (see CMJ.com review). The Blues followed up the record with showcases for both the CMJ and the New Music Seminar in NYC. What also earned KDB some notoriety (or infamy) was their relationship with Boston street legend, Mr. Butch (RIP-summer 2007). Kildevil Blues donned 'Lone Ranger" masks and became 'the Mystery Band' for 'The Mr. Butch Show' saturday morning at the Middle East Restaurant in Central Square, Cambridge. Described as "Howling Wolf meets the Replacements" Kildevil Blues really defies categorization, although the references (blues, miscreant rock), are well made. While the band recorded material for a second record, they didn't release anything until the posthumous "the Mystery Show" (1995). The band broke up in 1992.
