Biography
Vaco Abadjiev (14 January 1926-14 December 1978) is the son of Nikola Abadjiev, a violin professor at Sofia Conservatory, and Lala Piperova, a pianist.
In June 1932 he played an extremely difficult program in Vienna before the jury of the First International Competition in Violin. The 6-year old child became the sensation of the contest. Among the great violinists of the 20th century only he made an international debut at this young age.
In 1936 he left for Brussels with his parents. In May 1938 Vasco Abadjiev was awarded the first prize and gold medal at the VI International Violin Competition Fritz Kreisler in Liege. At the beginning of World War II the family settled in Berlin, where Vasco perfected in playing the violin and piano, composition and counterpoint. He gave concerts under the conductor's baton of W. Furtvengler, K. Byom, N. Bongartz, H. Abendrot, Y. Mengelberg and others.
From 1950 to 1956 Vasco Abadjiev lived exclusively in Bulgaria, where he gave many concerts that have become legendary. After 1956 Vasco settled in Germany. He gave concerts and made recordings for the radio. Illnesses, a car accident, material troubles and loneliness were some of the tragic moments accompanying the life of this genius.
On 14 December 1978 Vasco Abadjiev was found dead in the city railway in Hamburg.
