Yosei Watanabe (born July 29, 1973), professionally known as m1dy, is a Japanese music producer and DJ renowned for his contributions to the speedcore genre. Watanabe began his musical journey in 1998 under the alias KAKUSEIKI THE MIDI ANARCHIST.
In 2003, m1dy released his debut album, SPEEDCORE DANDY XXX, which showcased his unique blend of high-velocity beats and pop sensibilities. This distinctive sound quickly garnered him a following both in Japan and internationally. Throughout his career, m1dy has been associated with several music labels. He founded the label PORK in 2004 and later established Maddest Chick'n Dom. He has also collaborated with notable labels such as Mob Squad Tokyo, SharpnelSound, and Hardcore Tano*C. In addition to his original works, m1dy has contributed tracks to various rhythm games, including the "beatmania IIDX" series, further cementing his influence in the electronic music scene.
Beyond his music production, m1dy has performed live in Japan and internationally. Notably, in 2010, he was invited to perform at CLUB NOKIA in Los Angeles during Anime Expo, North America's largest Japanese culture convention.
Over the years, m1dy has released several albums and EPs, including Perfect Mathafacka, World Flasher Corps, and No Soup For You. His music is characterized by its high energy, rapid tempos, and a fusion of hardcore electronic elements with melodic undertones.
As of the mid-2010s, m1dy shifted his focus from speedcore to "thrashkick," a DJ-focused subgenre of speedcore, continuing to innovate within the electronic music landscape.
Throughout his career, m1dy has maintained a strong presence in the electronic music community, continually pushing the boundaries of the speedcore genre and influencing a new generation of producers and fans. He is widely recognized as a deeply influential figure in developing the Japanese speedcore scene and incorporating melodic elements into the genre.
